Starting from Fez towards the Tafilalet
We offer no counter and no delivery in Errachidia. The vehicle, from our fleet based in Casablanca (Maarif), is handed over at Fès-Saïss airport. From there you drive south across the Middle and High Atlas. It is a genuine mountain journey, best tackled in a powerful, stable and comfortable car.
The right model for the Atlas and the desert
For this kind of route we recommend a large SUV:
- Range Rover Sport (or Autobiography) for comfort on long stages
- Audi Q8 or Maserati Levante for space and luggage
- Porsche Macan or Maserati Grecale for a more compact size
The Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes CLA 220 remain available if you travel light. All are automatic with unlimited mileage.
Why travellers come to Errachidia
The town overlooks the Ziz valley and its palm groves, one of the most photographed landscapes in southern Morocco. Further south lies the Tafilalet, historic cradle of the Alaouite dynasty, and beyond it the dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. Errachidia is a natural base for this oasis circuit.
Tips for the south-east road
Crossing the Atlas offers spectacular scenery, from the cedar forests around Ifrane to the drier plateaus that herald the desert. Leave Fez in the morning to make the most of the light, plan regular breaks and check the weather in winter, when snow can reach the mountain passes. A tall, well-equipped SUV brings real peace of mind here, on winding mountain roads as much as on the long straight stretches of the south. Pack water and keep some cash for small villages along the way.
