Morocco's northern Mediterranean coast

Every summer, the coastal strip between Tetouan and Fnideq, known as Tamuda Bay, becomes one of Morocco's most popular seaside destinations. Long sandy beaches, Mediterranean water, seafront promenades: M'diq, Cabo Negro and Marina Smir draw Moroccan families, Moroccans living abroad and international travellers from June to September.

Distances are short, but the spots are spread along the coast road. A car lets you move from one beach to another, dine at the marina and head up to Tetouan the next day without depending on anyone.

Arriving through Tangier airport

Tangier airport is a convenient gateway to the region. Most of our cars can be collected there on arrival. From Tangier, the road reaches Tetouan and then the coast in a little over an hour depending on traffic; in the middle of August, allow more, as the coast is very busy.

M'diq, Cabo Negro and Marina Smir

M'diq is a former fishing port turned seaside resort, with a corniche that comes alive in the evening. Cabo Negro, on its headland, offers views over the bay. Further north, Marina Smir combines a yacht harbour and waterside walks, before Fnideq and the border with Ceuta.

In summer, evenings run late. Timing your drives helps a lot: head to the beach early, return after sunset, and avoid the hours when everyone is on the move at once.

Ideas for trips inland

A few kilometres from the coast, the medina of Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage site, deserves half a day. Chefchaouen and its blue lanes, in the Rif, can be reached by car as a day trip. With your own vehicle, these visits fit freely around your beach days.

The minimum rental period is 3 days and the deposit is 30000 MAD. Cars are returned during the agency's opening hours. Summer being high season on this coast, it is wise to book early. Cars are rented without a driver; a driver can be offered on request, subject to availability.
