Casablanca facing the Atlantic

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and its economic heart, but it is by the ocean that it shows its most relaxed side. West of the centre, the Aïn Diab corniche unrolls a long seafront avenue lined with beach clubs, cafés and restaurants, while the Anfa district, on the hills above, is a place of villas and tree-lined avenues.

A route along the ocean

Start at the Hassan II Mosque, built partly over the sea, whose minaret overlooks the whole coast. Then follow the coastal boulevard west: El Hank lighthouse marks the start of the corniche. Further on, Aïn Diab comes alive mostly at the end of the day, when Casablancans come to walk facing the sunset.

At the end of the corniche, the shrine of Sidi Abderrahmane stands on a rock reachable at low tide. Return via the heights of Anfa, one of the city's most sought-after residential areas, before heading back down to the centre.

Driving in Casablanca

Traffic is heavy at rush hour and parking in the centre takes patience. Along the corniche the pace is calmer, although summer evenings and weekends draw crowds. An automatic car makes city driving far more comfortable: all our cars are automatic, with unlimited mileage as well.

To reach the city from Mohammed V airport, a motorway links the two; allow about 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Business during the week, dinner on the corniche in the evening, a weekend trip to Rabat or El Jadida: Casablanca is often the starting point of stays that mix several purposes. A sedan suits meetings in town; an SUV takes over as soon as the road gets longer.
