A winter race in the sunshine
The Marrakech International Marathon is one of the best-known road races in North Africa. It offers a marathon (42.195 km) and a half marathon (21.1 km) on a flat course past palm groves, olive groves and the city's ramparts. According to the official website, marrakechmarathon.com, the 37th edition will take place on Sunday 31 January 2027, with a bib collection expo on the two preceding days. Registration, rules and times should be checked on that website only.
Why rent a car
On race days, central Marrakech is very busy and some streets are closed. So a car is not for the morning of the start, but it is very useful around it: to arrive from the airport with your luggage, reach accommodation in the Palmeraie or on the Ourika road, collect your bib and then enjoy your recovery days. Many runners combine the race with a few days of sightseeing.
Pick-up at Marrakech airport
Several models in our fleet can be collected at Marrakech airport: Porsche Macan, Maserati Levante, Audi Q8, Maserati Grecale, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes CLA 220. They can also be picked up at the Casablanca agency (Maarif) and at Casablanca Mohammed V airport, handy if you arrive via Casablanca: Marrakech is then about 240 km away by motorway. The minimum rental period is 3 days.
Which car for a marathon trip
For a solo runner or a couple, the Mercedes CLA 220 (1000 MAD/day) is simple and comfortable. For a small group with suitcases and gear, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque (1300 MAD/day) or the Maserati Grecale (1800 MAD/day) offer five seats. If you stay a week or more, the sliding rates become attractive: the Maserati Levante drops to 2000 MAD/day from 7 days and to 1800 MAD/day from 15 days. All cars are automatic, with unlimited mileage.
Ideas for after the race
Once the medal is around your neck, the car opens up the region: the Ourika Valley at the foot of the High Atlas, the Agafay plateau and its stone desert, or Lalla Takerkoust lake. Essaouira and the ocean are about 190 km away. Gentle drives, perfect for resting your legs.

Book the car early, as late January is a busy time in Marrakech. Plan to reach the start on foot or by taxi on race day, and only get back behind the wheel once you are well rested.
