Two words that are often confused
When you rent a luxury car in Morocco, two amounts appear on every model's page: the deposit and the excess. They look alike, but they do not mean the same thing. Understanding them before you book avoids unpleasant surprises at pick-up and at return.
The deposit: an amount held, not spent
The deposit is a guarantee. It is requested at the start of the rental and returned when the car comes back in the agreed condition. It is not a rental cost: it is a sum held for the length of the contract. The more upscale the vehicle, the higher the deposit, because it covers a more valuable asset.
In our fleet, most models require a deposit of 30000 MAD. That applies to the Range Rover Sport, the Maserati Levante, the Audi Q8, the Porsche Macan, the Maserati Grecale, both Range Rover Evoque models, the BMW 5 Series M Sport and the Mercedes CLA 220. Two exceptions: the Range Rover Sport Autobiography, with a deposit of 50000 MAD, and the Mercedes CLA 220 Pack AMG offered in Al Hoceima, with a deposit of 10000 MAD.
The excess: what remains payable if there is damage
The excess is a ceiling. If the car is damaged, it is the share of the cost that may remain payable by the renter. It is not paid in advance and only applies if an incident occurs. A high excess does not make the daily rental more expensive; it shows the maximum amount at stake if something happens.
The figures, model by model
- Range Rover Sport Autobiography (2026): deposit 50000 MAD, excess 75000 MAD.
- Range Rover Sport (2025): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 49992 MAD.
- Audi Q8 (2025): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 45000 MAD.
- Maserati Grecale (2025): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 45000 MAD.
- BMW 5 Series M Sport (2025): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 35000 MAD.
- Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic (2024): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 24500 MAD.
- Range Rover Evoque (2025): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 20000 MAD.
- Mercedes CLA 220 (2025): deposit 30000 MAD, excess 20000 MAD.
- Maserati Levante, Porsche Macan: deposit 30000 MAD; the excess is confirmed when you book.
- Mercedes CLA 220 Pack AMG (Al Hoceima): deposit 10000 MAD; the excess is confirmed when you book.
How to read these amounts
Comparing two cars on the daily price alone is not enough. A Range Rover Evoque, from 1300 MAD/day, and a Range Rover Sport Autobiography, from 2500 MAD/day, do not put the same sums at stake in case of an incident: 20000 MAD of excess on one side, 75000 MAD on the other. For a first trip, or for a long drive on unfamiliar roads, a model with a lower excess can be the calmer choice.
Two practical tips. First, include the deposit in your travel budget, since it stays held for the whole rental, whose minimum length is 3 days for most models and 5 days for the CLA 220 Pack AMG. Second, walk around the car at pick-up and at return, so its starting condition is clear to everyone.
For everything else — detailed insurance terms, required documents, payment methods — you get the answer directly when you book, for the model you choose.
