A network linking the major cities

Morocco's motorway network is operated by Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM). It links Casablanca with Rabat, Tanger, Fès, Marrakech and Agadir among others, making it the ideal way to combine several cities in one stay. For a rental car collected in Casablanca, it is often the simplest and most comfortable way to reach the capital, Rabat, about 90 km away.

How tolls work

Moroccan motorways are toll roads. In practice you pass toll stations along the route and pay the amount for the section travelled. Rates depend on the route and the vehicle category. We do not publish amounts here: for the exact toll on a given route, ADM refers travellers to its ADM Trafic app and website, which remain the up-to-date reference.

The Jawaz badge

Jawaz is ADM's electronic toll system: a badge fixed to the windscreen that lets you pass the barriers without stopping, with the amount debited automatically. According to ADM, it can be bought at its sales offices or at toll stations, and topped up through several channels: offices, toll stations, service areas, online top-up, partner banks, mobile payment or the Jawaz app. To find out whether your rental car has a badge, ask when you book.

Driving on the motorway

According to NARSA, the maximum speed on motorways is 120 km/h unless signs indicate otherwise. A few tips for a relaxed journey:

  • Keep to the right-hand lane and use the left only to overtake.
  • Take regular breaks at service areas.
  • Check your fuel level before long sections.
  • Stay alert to pedestrians or animals that may occasionally be near the carriageway.

Which car for long journeys

On the motorway, comfort matters. The diesel Land Rover Range Rover Sport is available from 2000 MAD/day for longer rentals (base rate 3000 MAD/day, 2300 MAD/day from 7 days, 2000 MAD/day from 15 days). The BMW 5 Series M Sport, a diesel saloon, is available at 1500 MAD/day. Collection and return

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport can be collected at the Casablanca agency (Maarif) or at the airports of Casablanca Mohammed V, Rabat, Marrakech, Agadir, Fès, Tanger, Nador and Oujda, with return during the agency's opening hours. The BMW 5 Series M Sport is collected in Casablanca, 24/7. The minimum rental period is 3 days for both models.
